Point Dume Beach in Malibu has been closed indefinitely due to severe erosion caused by recent high tides and powerful surf. The closure affects Westward Beach Road beyond the pay gate, including the entrance and parking area for Point Dume Beach. The City of Malibu has stated there is currently no estimated reopening date.

The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors is urging the public to avoid the restricted areas until they are deemed safe. Officials have cautioned that the bluff edge is unstable, with erosion creating drop-offs of up to eight feet in some locations, and entering closed areas could result in serious injury. Safety cones, caution tape, and barriers are in place to prevent access.

In addition to the beach closure, the erosion has damaged a water line serving three beach restrooms, necessitating their closure. Temporary portable toilets and hand-washing stations have been installed as an alternative.

This recent coastal damage follows similar incidents reported just days prior, where additional erosion impacted areas near oceanfront homes destroyed in the January 2025 Palisades Fire. These events highlight the ongoing challenges posed by severe weather and the vulnerability of the California coastline.
