Major Incident Declared Near US Air Base in UK, Homes Evacuated
Several men arrested under Explosives Act as authorities examine vehicles near RAF Fairford.
Gloucestershire Police declared a "major incident" and evacuated homes in the village of Whelford, near RAF Fairford, which hosts United States Air Force operations. Residents have been moved to a local leisure center while investigations are underway.
Several men have been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of offenses under the Explosives Act. The Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team is currently examining a number of vehicles at the scene. A cordon remains in place, and authorities believe the situation is contained.
A significant emergency services presence, including a Hazardous Area Response Team, was observed in the area. Police stated they are working closely with partner agencies and implementing established emergency plans in response to the situation.
