Los Angeles drivers should brace for extensive traffic disruptions this weekend due to major construction projects on the Interstate 405 and Interstate 105 freeways. Significant delays are anticipated, particularly for those traveling between the San Fernando Valley and the Westside.

The southbound lanes of the I-405 in the Sepulveda Pass will be reduced to three lanes between Ventura Boulevard and Mulholland Drive starting Friday, Sept. 11, at 10 p.m. and continuing through Monday, Sept. 14, at 5 a.m. This restriction is part of a $144 million repaving project aimed at extending the life of the pavement and improving safety. Northbound I-405 will remain open without lane reductions.

Several ramps will also be closed during this period: the Ventura Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-405; the southbound I-405 off-ramps to Valley Vista Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard; the Valley Vista Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-405; and the northbound I-405 off-ramp to Getty Center Drive.

Another phase of repaving work on the southbound I-405 is scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 25 to Sept. 28, with similar lane reductions and ramp closures expected.

Additionally, the I-105 Freeway will experience lane closures as part of the $1.4 billion I-105 ExpressLanes Project. This project involves replacing the existing carpool lane with two ExpressLanes in each direction between the I-405 and I-605 freeways. Construction is expected to continue through 2029.

Over the weekend of Sept. 11-13, the two innermost lanes of the westbound I-105 will be closed between Wilmington Avenue and the I-110 Freeway to allow for the installation of overhead sign structures. The westbound Wilmington Avenue on-ramp will also be shut down. Other westbound lanes will remain open.

Further work on the I-105 is planned for the weekend of Sept. 26-27, when lanes on the eastbound freeway will be closed between I-405 and Crenshaw Boulevard. On-ramps in the vicinity may also be closed as needed.

Transportation officials are advising drivers to seek alternate routes or utilize public transportation to mitigate potential delays. Information on current traffic conditions and detours can be found on Caltrans QuickMap, with additional construction schedule updates available through Caltrans District 7 News.

Residents in nearby communities may experience temporary noise, dust, and ground vibrations while the construction work is in progress.
