Magda Szubanski Continues to Live Life Fully Amidst 'Incurable' Cancer Battle
The beloved Australian comedian was seen navigating Sydney Airport in a wheelchair, maintaining a positive outlook despite her ongoing health challenges.
Australian comedian Magda Szubanski, known for her role in "Kath and Kim," was observed at Sydney Airport on Monday, utilizing a wheelchair as she was assisted by staff. Szubanski, 65, wore a face mask and appeared to be in good spirits while being transported through the terminal.
Her public appearance comes after she revealed in a recent interview that her Mantle Cell Lymphoma is an "incurable relapse in cancer." Szubanski shared that while the cancer is not curable, treatment can be effective, and many patients live for years after diagnosis. She acknowledged the presence of the "Sword of Damocles" over her head, understanding that her time could be limited, with the median survival rate for her condition being eight and a half years.
Szubanski described her chemotherapy experience as grueling but manageable. She discovered her illness after a period of ill health and experiencing nightmares that foretold her diagnosis. Mantle Cell Lymphoma is an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, with approximately 70 percent of patients diagnosed at stage 4. While there is no known cure, the disease can be put into remission through treatment.
