Conservative media figures and online influencers expressed significant criticism Friday regarding a brief cameo by former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a promotional video for Katy Perry's latest single, “Watch It Burn.” The clip, posted by Perry on TikTok, featured Trudeau hopping in the background for approximately three seconds.
Griff Jenkins, co-host of “Fox & Friends Weekend,” questioned Trudeau's appearance, noting his age and relationship status on air Saturday. “Literally, a 54-year-old grown man dancing in [a clip with his] girlfriend Katy Perry… remember he divorced his wife after leaving the prime minister’s office,” Jenkins said, calling the appearance “weird.”
Commentators also invoked Trudeau's past strained relationship with former President Donald Trump, who had previously called Trudeau “weak,” “dishonest,” and “two-faced.” Rachel Campos-Duffy, co-host of “Fox & Friends” and wife of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, made a comment suggesting a conspiracy theory about Trudeau's ancestry. "It was not on my bingo card for Fidel Castro’s grandson,” she stated.
Other reactions on social media platform X included comments like “Katy Perry is dressed like a 16 year old and Trudeau looks like a stalker,” and a more critical assessment from Dr. Jebra Faushay, author of “UNWOKE: An Unfiltered Escape from the Cult of Wokeness,” who described Perry as dressed like a “giant toddler” and Trudeau's movement as “bops around like a retard. Pure cringe.”
Trudeau's tenure as prime minister saw an increasingly strained relationship with Trump, who at one point suggested Canada should become the 51st U.S. state. While Trudeau faced declining approval ratings in Canada and stepped down in 2025, the reaction to his short cameo in Perry's video was notably strong among some U.S. conservative circles.
