MAGA Merch Store Owner Reports Plummeting Sales, Citing Supporter Frustration
A Virginia store owner who previously profited from Donald Trump merchandise has seen sales drop significantly, with some customers expressing disillusionment.
Sales have dramatically decreased at a store specializing in pro-Donald Trump merchandise, with its owner noting that even some supporters are voicing frustration.
CNN reported Tuesday that Whitey Taylor, owner of Trump Town USA in Boones Mill, Virginia, stated that daily sales have fallen from $12,000-$15,000 to around $1,500-$2,000.
Taylor, who had previously reported making millions from Trump-themed merchandise, suggested that supporters might be "mad at the president." He expressed confidence that business would eventually recover, even envisioning a future where Trump's children could continue the merchandise line.
Conversations with customers at the store also indicated a level of discontent within the Trump base. Stevie Lovell told CNN correspondent Elle Reeve that he has observed some Trump supporters altering or ceasing to display Trump's flag or stickers. "Very few people still support Trump," Lovell commented, though he affirmed his own continued support for the former president.
Other customers shared mixed sentiments. Barbara Keith defended Trump against criticism, particularly regarding rising gas prices. However, Jamie Varela expressed significant financial strain, citing monthly grocery bills of $800-$1,000 and difficulties affording basic necessities. Varela attributed some of these economic challenges to Trump, specifically referencing his involvement in a conflict with Iran.
Reeve's return visit to Taylor's store, first featured in 2023, highlighted a stark contrast in business volume and customer sentiment, as documented in a CNN segment aired on Anderson Cooper's show.
