Despite economic headwinds like high inflation and gas prices, conservative radio host John Fredericks, a supporter of former President Donald Trump, asserts that the MAGA base is united and will turn out in large numbers for the midterms. Fredericks, host of "America, Actually," told Vox's Astead Herndon that while voters are feeling the pinch of rising costs, they have patience and believe the economy is fundamentally improving under Trump's policies.
"Things are improving. The underpinnings of the economy are phenomenal. Everything we’re doing, they’re off the charts. Now, consumer spending, way up. It’s up at record levels," Fredericks stated. He acknowledged that voters are upset about the cost of living, but he believes they will give Trump the benefit of the doubt and recognize that jobs and wages are up.
Fredericks dismissed the notion that the MAGA base is crumbling, calling such claims "right-wing clickbaiters." He characterized the upcoming election as a "turnout election," predicting that Trump supporters will show up to vote.
Regarding specific races, Fredericks identified three key bellwethers for election night. He anticipates Republicans will gain two seats in the U.S. Senate. For the House, he believes holding the chamber is crucial. He highlighted Virginia's Second Congressional District race between Jen Kiggans and Elaine Luria as a critical indicator. Fredericks also pointed to Rob Wittman's race in Virginia's First District and Brian Fitzpatrick's race in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, as important early indicators of Republican success.
