Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are scheduled to face a narcoterrorism trial in New York starting June 1, 2027. U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein set the date during the couple's third court appearance since their capture in January. Maduro, 63, and Flores, 69, have been held without bail at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center since their arrest. They are accused of collaborating with drug cartels for over two decades, from 1999 to 2025, to transport thousands of tons of cocaine into the United States. Maduro faces additional charges of narcoterrorism for alleged involvement with "terror" groups, while both he and Flores are separately charged with possessing machine guns. The couple was apprehended in a raid at their Caracas compound.
