Maduro Pleads Not Guilty to Torture Charges

Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, pleaded not guilty Thursday to new charges accusing them of torturing individuals, including Americans, in an effort to maintain their power. Maduro, appearing in a jail smock, addressed the court, stating, "I reject this document in its entirety," and characterized the accusations of torture as false.

Maduro and Flores are slated to stand trial on June 14, 2027.
