Maduro Faces New Charges Over Torture of Americans
Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are expected to face additional charges related to the alleged torture of Americans held in Venezuelan prisons.
Federal prosecutors are anticipated to file new charges against former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, accusing them of involvement in the torture of U.S. citizens detained in Venezuela. The charges are expected to be brought this week, according to CBS, which cited reports from its U.S. media partners.
Maduro and Flores were apprehended by U.S. forces in January 2026 from their residence in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital. They were subsequently brought to New York to face initial charges related to alleged weapon and drug offenses, allegations they deny. The legal team representing Maduro has been contacted for comment.
The U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan is reportedly considering charges against additional individuals for their alleged roles in the torture of over a dozen Americans who were reportedly detained unlawfully under Maduro's administration.
