Maduro and Wife Face New Torture Conspiracy Charges

Manhattan federal prosecutors have filed new conspiracy to commit torture charges against former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The indictment was announced shortly before a hearing concerning whether Flores should be placed under house arrest pending the couple's trial, scheduled for the summer of 2027.

Maduro and Flores were previously indicted on charges of narcoterrorism conspiracy following their apprehension by U.S. military forces on January 3rd. The raid occurred at the presidential compound in Caracas. Both have entered pleas of not guilty and are currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
