Madonna's 20-year-old daughter, Mercy James, has been working behind the scenes at Bravo's late-night talk show "Watch What Happens Live" (WWHL), according to a report. The revelation comes from a source who spotted the younger James at the show's New York City studio several weeks ago.
Rosie O'Donnell, a friend of Madonna's, was the first to publicly share details about Mercy's role. During a recent interview with People, O'Donnell recounted seeing Mercy while a guest on WWHL. Initially mistaking her for a staff member, O'Donnell was surprised to learn the identity of the young woman.
"Her daughter, Mercy, works there," O'Donnell told People. She added that Mercy has been with the show for approximately one year, expressing pride in her accomplishments.
Madonna adopted Mercy from Malawi in 2009. The singer has five other children: Lourdes Leon, Rocco Ritchie, David Banda, and twins Estere and Stella Ciccone. Mercy's involvement with WWHL places her in the employ of Andy Cohen, a figure with whom Madonna has a notable, albeit playful, rivalry.
In December 2023, during her "Celebration Tour" in New York City, Madonna acknowledged Cohen's presence in the audience. She playfully referred to him as a "little troublemaking queen" and jokingly warned him about potential consequences if he continued to speak negatively about her on his show. Cohen responded with affection, expressing his admiration for the pop icon. He later shared a clip of the concert interaction and a compilation of his mentions of Madonna on WWHL, calling her the "Queen of Troublemaking."
Madonna has never made a guest appearance on "Watch What Happens Live," which has been on the air since 2009.
