MSNBC host Rachel Maddow has pointed to an unexpected silver lining in the presidency of Donald Trump: his perceived incompetence and failures.

Maddow stated on her program that while a "bad president is bad for a country," the current situation with Trump has revealed a downside to his leadership that benefits the nation. "Having somebody at the top of a political pyramid, who is corrupt, who is incompetent, who seeks to stay in power even when he loses elections so he can build monuments to himself and basically loot the place. I mean, that’s just not good. You wouldn’t wish that on any country. You certainly would not wish it on your own," she said.

However, she continued, "what we are learning right now, what we are living through right now is the fact that when you have a bad president, turns out he’s also bad at pursuing the things that he wants for himself."

Maddow suggested that when facing an opponent with "evil intent," the best possible outcome is either a change of heart or "that they’ll be an incompetent buffoon who fails at everything he tries." She argued that in Trump's case, "his compounding failures, his blustering incompetence and his illiteracy kind of paying off for us as a country."

She cited several examples of what she described as Trump's recent failures, including the closure of the migrant detention center known as Alligator Alcatraz, his handling of a deal with Iran, and the renovation of the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall.

Maddow concluded that opposition to Trump is currently strong and that Trump is visibly "flailing." According to Maddow, "He’s a laughingstock, and his policies are failing and being abandoned, and his supporters are fleeing."
