New York City's skies were illuminated by the 50th annual Macy's Fourth of July fireworks spectacular, an event expanded to commemorate America's upcoming 250th birthday. Spectators filled areas across the city, including Battery Park in Lower Manhattan, to witness the pyrotechnic display.
The show, which commenced at 9:02 p.m., was moved up from its original schedule due to forecasts of inclement weather. Over 85,000 fireworks shells were launched from barges positioned on the Hudson and East rivers, reaching heights of up to 1,000 feet. The display originated from more than 200 points, including near the Brooklyn Bridge towers. Chants of "USA, USA, USA" were heard from onlookers along the Hudson River. The approximately 30-minute performance painted the night sky with vibrant colors and elaborate patterns.
The event, billed as a patriotic pyrotechnic miracle, drew thousands of attendees, many clad in red, white, and blue. The scale of the fireworks was amplified to mark the approaching America 250 milestone.
