Macklemore Announces "Free Palestine Tour" Amidst Controversy
The rapper has announced a new overseas tour and spoken out against being apolitical during conflicts.
Macklemore has announced an upcoming "Free Palestine Tour" with special guests, following a recent controversy. The rapper revealed the tour dates via Instagram, with stops planned in Dublin on October 26, Paris on October 29, and London on October 30. Dates for shows in the United States and further artist announcements are expected soon.
In his Instagram post, Macklemore, born Benjamin Haggerty, commented on a perceived shift in public consciousness over the past three years, stating, "There has been a collective awakening around Palestinian liberation, the power of billionaires that try to censor that call, and what we expect from artists right now." He appeared to criticize artists who remain neutral on the conflict, asserting, "It’s 2026. Being apolitical during a genocide doesn’t work anymore."
Macklemore stated that people are asking artists to be more engaged, to educate themselves, and to use their platforms for more than just entertainment. He believes artists should "push back when the call for a Free Palestine is met with attempts to silence it." He added that the situation is "bigger than one artist or one stage," emphasizing that when the "billionaire class can decide which voices are allowed on stage and which ones are too dangerous to hear, everyone should be paying attention."
He explained that with his schedule having recently opened up, he has been reaching out to artists who have publicly supported Palestinian liberation. Macklemore acknowledged that many details are still being finalized due to the rapid organization of the tour, but he views it as a moment of momentum with important work to be done.
