Luxury Handbag Collection Worth $300,000 Stolen in Los Angeles Home Burglary
Thieves targeted a Los Angeles homeowner after she displayed her collection of Hermès handbags on social media.
A Los Angeles woman's collection of Hermès handbags, valued between $250,000 and $300,000, was stolen from her home on Monday afternoon. The burglary occurred in Eagle Rock while the homeowner, Patricia Vuagniaux, 60, was at a doctor's appointment.
Despite security measures, including a Ring camera and reinforced windows, the thieves managed to bypass them. They reportedly broke the lock on Vuagniaux's closet door, where the collection was kept. "They were strategic enough to avoid the Ring camera in the front so they came through the side. They knew exactly what they were doing," Vuagniaux told ABC 7. She also suggested the thieves may have used a signal jammer to disable her camera system and those of her neighbors.
Vuagniaux, who began collecting the luxury handbags over 20 years ago after retiring and selling her coffee business, considered the collection part of her retirement fund. "I worked hard for everything I got," she told the New York Post.
Months prior to the burglary, Vuagniaux had posted a list of her collection on Facebook in a luxury handbag group, detailing items worth thousands of dollars. She admitted to the New York Post, "I never thought of that. I'm such an idiot."
In addition to the handbags, thieves also stole watches and a jewelry box containing her daughters' baby teeth, which Vuagniaux described as the most painful loss. The incident has left her feeling targeted and unsafe in her own home.
"I'm so scared. I'm so afraid to be in my home," she said, expressing gratitude that her husband and daughter were unharmed.
