Luke Weaver continues to perform under pressure as trade rumors swirl, enhancing his value to the New York Mets and complicating the team's decision-making as the trade deadline approaches. Weaver, who has pitched for seven teams in parts of nine major league seasons, has shown remarkable composure, turning in another scoreless inning during the Mets' 3-2 victory over the Braves on Wednesday.

"It [was] certainly a lot harder in the past," Weaver said about dealing with the uncertainty. "But unfortunately and fortunately, I’ve had a lot of experience through different waves of these circumstances—experience to lean into, offseason, in season, for good, for bad. So I think that gives me peace."

Since May, Weaver has appeared in 29 games and allowed just one earned run, lowering his ERA to 1.88. This performance streak has made him a sought-after asset for other clubs, but also a valuable piece for the Mets, who are not obligated to trade him due to his contract status.

Weaver, 32, signed a two-year, $22 million pact with the Mets last offseason. He is due $11 million next season and could be part of the team's plans for 2027. He expressed contentment with his current situation in New York, citing positive relationships and clubhouse culture.

"It’s been a real joy to come in every day, even in an environment that isn’t winning like we had hoped," Weaver said. "The winning is great, but you also want the consistency of what you bring on a daily basis when you walk in through the door, and that has definitely matched that in such a positive way, and it’s a testament to the people they have here."

While Weaver and his wife are "mentally prepared to an extent" for a trade, he emphasized that they are not actively looking to leave. The Mets' potential reluctance to trade him is amplified by their aspirations to compete soon, rather than rebuild.

Interim manager Andy Green acknowledged Weaver's significance. "Luke’s really good [and] valuable to us not just this season, the remainder, but also the next season," Green said. "Nobody knows how the next few days are going to go."

Weaver's ability to thrive amidst uncertainty, coupled with his consistent performance, presents a complex scenario for the Mets as they weigh their options before the trade deadline.
