Actor Luke Evans has attributed his enduring career in Hollywood to a deliberate strategy of observation and learning. Evans shared that he has survived in the competitive industry by "watching and listening" to actors he admires.

This approach informed his portrayal of Martin Gilmour, a journalist shaped by a lifelong friendship with a politician, in the new ITV drama "The Party." The series, based on a novel by Elizabeth Day, interweaves the narrative between a birthday party and a subsequent police investigation. Evans, who also serves as an executive producer, found a deep personal connection to the character, stating that he could draw upon his own life experiences to embody Gilmour, even when the character made life choices different from his own.

"I think that's probably why I resonated with the story when I read the book," Evans said. "Watching and listening is how I've managed to survive this industry. If I'm on a film set, I'm always watching other actors or older actors that I've been admiring for years."

The drama has been filmed at various locations, including parks and bars in Cardiff and Rhondda Cynon Taf, since October. Evans stars alongside Tom Cullen, who plays the politician character Ben Fitzmaurice.
