A report investigating the circumstances surrounding the murders of seven infants by former nurse Lucy Letby has concluded that some of the deaths could have been prevented. Letby is currently serving 15 whole-life prison sentences for the murders and for attempting to murder seven additional infants. She was convicted in 2023 and has been denied permission to appeal her convictions on two occasions.
The Countess of Chester Hospital, where the crimes occurred, issued a statement expressing sorrow for the events of 2015 and 2016. The hospital asserted that it is now a "different organisation today with new leadership, stronger governance and safety processes." Letby has maintained her innocence.
The findings were released amidst protests from supporters of Letby, who gathered near Liverpool Town Hall.
