Lucy Hale, known for her role in "Pretty Little Liars," announced on Monday the sudden death of her father, Preston, who passed away Friday evening at the age of 68. Hale shared a touching tribute on Instagram, remembering her father as a funny, sensitive, and kind individual.
Preston, a lifelong farmer, had a 37-year career in corporate roles with Dunavant Cotton and Shoaf Farms. His obituary notes that he was a true Southern man who enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and farming.
Hale described her father as someone who adored his family, including her stepmother Stacy, his grandchildren, and his dogs. "He unconditionally loved me and my sister. He never judged," Hale wrote. "Our relationship took on many forms over the years, and through it all was a deep soul bond."
The actress also expressed gratitude that her sister was with her when they received the news, calling it a "parting gift" from her father. "I can't imagine receiving that call alone or walking through these first surreal days by myself," she stated. Hale shared that her spirituality and beliefs are providing comfort, and she believes her father has simply taken a different form and will continue to send signs.
Preston is survived by Hale, her sister Maggie Clarke Lewis, nine grandchildren, and three stepdaughters. His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Milan, Tennessee.
Hale received condolences from "Pretty Little Liars" creator I. Marlene King and former castmates, as well as support from other celebrities including Demi Lovato, Lily Collins, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The actress's family tragedy comes two months after she completed filming on the rom-com "Princess."
