A lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan has turned a popular ballpark tradition into an almost unbelievable streak of luck, winning a 50/50 raffle on her birthday for three consecutive years. Katherine Ace, who celebrates her birthday on July 23, has collected a total of $44,620 from these wins across two different ballparks.
The remarkable run began on her 37th birthday in 2024 at Dodger Stadium, where she won $25,515. The following year, she secured another win, taking home $10,940. In a twist, her third consecutive birthday win occurred not in Los Angeles, but at Comerica Park in Detroit on July 23, where she purchased tickets for the Detroit Tigers' game against the Kansas City Royals. There, she won the 50/50 raffle for a third straight year.
Ace attributes her success partly to her strategy of purchasing a significant number of tickets. Over the three years, she invested $400, which yielded over $44,000. For the 2024 and 2025 Dodgers promotions, she bought 300 tickets for $150 each time. In Detroit, she purchased 626 tickets for $100.
The 50/50 raffles, managed by the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, raise funds for various charitable causes, including youth sports, education, healthcare, homelessness prevention, and social justice initiatives in Los Angeles. Half of the net proceeds from each raffle are awarded to a lucky winner.
While Ace plans to continue attending baseball games on her birthday, fellow fans have attempted to calculate the odds of such an improbable streak. One estimate places the probability at approximately one in 3.375 trillion. Whether that precise figure is accurate, winning the raffle once is memorable, twice is highly unlikely, and achieving it three times in a row on the same specific date borders on folklore.
