LSU has chosen not to add former NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to its roster for Saturday's opening game against Clemson. This decision comes despite a Louisiana judge issuing a preliminary injunction against the NCAA on Thursday, which had paved the way for their inclusion.
East Baton Rouge Parish Judge William Jorden's ruling followed a nearly nine-hour hearing where athletes testified about their eligibility. Harris, a former defensive lineman for the New Orleans Saints, and Wright, a former tight end for the Cleveland Browns, were present during the hearing. Both testified that they would not have pursued professional careers if they had known they might have an additional year of college eligibility.
Harris and Wright stated they each earned approximately $1 million during their college careers. Harris reported receiving only $190 in travel expenses from the Saints and spent his time with the team rehabilitating a foot injury. Wright mentioned receiving a $25,000 signing bonus from Philadelphia before a brief stint with the Browns, and expressed willingness to repay the bonus for a chance to play for LSU.
