A Kansas dog is being hailed as a hero after its quick thinking and loyalty led police to its owner, who had fallen and was unable to get up. The incident occurred last month in a Kansas City suburb.

Bodycam footage released by the Leawood Police Department shows an officer encountering a small dog in the middle of a dark road during a patrol. The officer initially addressed the dog, stating, "Hi, why don't you go on back home?"

The dog, however, continued to bark and led the officer back towards its home. The officer followed the canine about half a block to the residence, where the garage door was open. Inside, officers discovered the homeowner on the floor, unable to rise. According to police, the resident had been in that position for more than three hours.

As the officer followed the dog up the driveway, another dog emerged from the home. The officer was able to identify the resident, though their identity has not been publicly released.

The dog stopped and barked at a police officer, who then followed the loyal companion to his owner's house

"Thanks to the resident's loyal companion, our officer was able to find them and get them the help they needed," police stated. Medical personnel treated the resident, who is now recovering at home.

The footage has garnered positive reactions online, with many users expressing admiration for the dog's instincts and suggesting rewards for the animal's heroic actions.
