Love Island contestant Gabriel Garland has publicly addressed his removal from the reality television show, stating his disappointment and clarifying his legal standing regarding a past incident. Garland, a 24-year-old model, was removed from the villa shortly after his arrival as a Casa Amor bombshell.
In an Instagram video, Garland stated it was "very disappointing" to be removed from the show. He clarified that he had not been found guilty of any wrongdoing and does not have a criminal record. According to Garland, the incident in question occurred at a party when he was a teenager, describing it as a "traumatic" event for everyone involved. He asserted that a legal judge found no wrongdoing against him.
Garland also expressed sadness over leaving the villa, particularly as he felt he was forming a strong connection with another contestant that viewers did not get to see. He thanked fans for their supportive messages and stated his desire to move forward positively.
Reports indicated that ITV, the show's broadcaster, was made aware that Garland was referenced in court documents related to the conviction of Vitor Mazzer. Mazzer was found guilty of two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an incident on New Year's Eve in 2019. Court documents cited by media outlets state that Garland attended the party with Mazzer and that two victims had an altercation with Garland before Mazzer allegedly stabbed them. Garland's mother reportedly provided a character statement for him in court, noting he was 17 at the time of the incident. Mazzer was sentenced to 42 months in prison, and his appeal was refused in April 2024.
This situation follows another recent departure from the villa, with contestant George Knight reportedly leaving after receiving a warning for using offensive language. While Knight stated he left due to a family health concern, sources suggested the offensive language incident was the primary reason for his exit. A representative for ITV confirmed Garland's departure, stating, "Gabriel has now left the Villa and will not be returning."
