Louis Walsh Reflects on 'Mini Heart Attack' During Celebrity Big Brother Stint

Louis Walsh, 74, has disclosed that he experienced what his doctor believes was a 'mini heart attack' while participating in Celebrity Big Brother. The Irish pop manager expressed regret over his decision to join the show, citing anxiety issues and attributing his well-being to the on-site ITV medics.

Walsh admitted that financial incentives, reportedly close to £850,000, were a primary motivation for his involvement. "I did it for the money but I shouldn't have," he stated on The 2 Johnnies podcast. He described the experience as difficult, particularly the inability to sleep at night due to being confined and the darkness within the house. Medics provided him with tea breaks, and he acknowledged their care, but ultimately deemed his participation a "big mistake."

He shared the experience with Sharon Osbourne, who he noted was also not in a "good place" during their time on the show. Walsh characterized their situation as being like "television hookers" motivated by payment.

Following his appearance on Celebrity Big Brother, Walsh has indicated he will not participate in any potential reboot of Simon Cowell's X Factor. "I won't be doing it as I am probably too old," he said, though he acknowledged the show's good pay. Walsh speculated on potential replacements for the judging panel, suggesting Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger would be suitable.

Walsh recalled a past critical comment he made about Kelly Osbourne's singing, which she did not take well. He stood by his assessment of her song "Papa Don't Preach" as "absolute s***e."

The X Factor, which launched the careers of artists like Leona Lewis and One Direction, was a significant ratings success during its peak, drawing up to 19 million viewers. After 15 seasons, the show was shelved by ITV, with subsequent spin-offs including X Factor: Celebrity and X Factor: The Band.

Reports have emerged suggesting ITV is considering a revamped version of The X Factor to fill a gap in its entertainment schedule, especially on weekends. This consideration comes after other recent ITV programs, The Neighbourhood and The Fortune Hotel, reportedly failed to meet expectations. A source indicated that ITV is looking to avoid further costly programming failures and sees The X Factor as a proven format that could be modernized. The proposed changes include a potentially younger and fresher judging panel, with Cowell potentially taking a behind-the-scenes role, aiming to appeal to a social media-savvy audience.
