A dog named Chong has been reunited with his owner five years after disappearing from his Nebraska home and traveling approximately 600 miles.

Inmaculada Jackman last saw Chong in 2021. She continued to search for him in the years that followed, periodically driving through their old neighborhood. The search ended when Jackman saw a post from the Hendricks County Animal Shelter in Indiana. The shelter announced that the dog had been found behind a truck stop.

The Hendricks County Animal Shelter reported that Chong had been microchipped by another individual after his disappearance. The shelter's staff worked to contact the microchip company and the original owner. While the microchip owner did not respond, the shelter was able to facilitate a reunion between Chong and Jackman.

Jackman shared a video of their reunion on Facebook, expressing her joy and disbelief. She explained that upon being found, Chong had a chip that led to a Lincoln, Nebraska address. After she was sent the post about the dog, she contacted the shelter. Due to protocol regarding the microchip being registered to someone else, the shelter had to wait three days for any potential owner to come forward. When no one responded, Jackman made the 600-mile drive from Nebraska to Indiana to retrieve her pet.

Shelter staff described the reunion as emotional, with "no dry eyes" when Jackman picked up Chong. The shelter noted Chong's apparent recognition of both his owner and his canine sibling upon his return. Chong has since been welcomed back into a home filled with family eager for his return.
