Five Los Angeles County public pools will transform into aquatic playgrounds for dogs this Saturday as part of the annual "Pooches in the Pool" event. The initiative, organized by the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation and LA County Animal Care and Control, marks the close of the summer swim season by allowing canines exclusive access to the water before the pools are drained and cleaned for the year.

Humans will be prohibited from entering the water, but are invited to supervise and cheer from the poolside. The event aims to provide a unique recreational opportunity for local dogs and their owners.

The "Pooches in the Pool" event will take place at five county locations: City Terrace Pool in East Los Angeles, El Cariso Pool in Sylmar, Don Knabe Park in Cerritos, George Lane Pool in Lancaster, and Ted Watkins Park in Los Angeles. To ensure a smoother experience, the event will be divided into sessions based on dog size. Smaller dogs will have access to the pools from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by larger dogs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Participation requires dogs to have current vaccinations, and owners must bring a completed registration form. Details regarding the county's rules and the necessary paperwork are available through the Department of Parks and Recreation.

This event offers a final splashy send-off for the swimming season, prioritizing a fun and safe environment for the county's four-legged residents.
