A fast-moving brush fire swept through the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon, destroying at least one residence and challenging firefighters to prevent further spread.

The blaze ignited around 2 p.m. near the intersection of the 2 Freeway and Colorado Boulevard. The fire rapidly moved uphill, threatening additional homes in its path.

Firefighters engaged in an aggressive battle to contain the flames. At least one home was confirmed to have caught fire as crews worked to manage the advancing blaze. Officials temporarily closed at least one lane of the 2 Freeway in the area below the fire.

The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the forward progress of the fire was stopped by approximately 3 p.m. Crews then transitioned to focusing on full containment of the incident. The fire had burned about 1 acre before its spread was halted.
