Lorraine Kelly's Mother Hospitalized After Fall on 85th Birthday

Lorraine Kelly has revealed that her mother, Anne Kelly, is in the hospital celebrating her 85th birthday following a fall. The television presenter, 66, shared the news on her breakfast show on Tuesday, expressing her hope that her mother will recover quickly.

Speaking on her program, Kelly said, "Happy birthday to my dear mum. Sadly, she's back in hospital. She had a wee fall." She added, "God bless her. I hope she has a good day. Mum, have a great day as much as you can in hospital."

Kelly also posted a message on Instagram, accompanying a photo of herself and her mother. "Happy 85th birthday to my mum," she wrote. "Sadly celebrating in hospital today after a bad fall resulted in broken arm. Saw her at weekend and she’s getting well looked after. Hopefully back home with us soon."

This health update comes nine months after Anne's husband and Lorraine's father, John, passed away in January at the age of 84. John died after slipping on icy ground near their home in East Kilbride, Scotland. At the time, Lorraine described her family as having become stronger following the loss, though she noted her father's death had still come as a shock despite his recent poor health.

In a tribute following her father's death, Kelly wrote, "Very sad news. My dad has died. I am mourning the man who bought me a telescope when I was five years old, who watched the moon landings with me and taught me to always be curious and interested in everything."

She added that the loss had brought her family closer, stating, "It's difficult, but it's made us stronger as a family." Kelly dedicated her latest novel, The Island Secret, to her father, explaining that he never got to read it as he passed away while she was finalizing the manuscript. She reflected on the difficult January and the family's efforts to focus on the positive aspects of her father's life.

John Kelly, a TV service engineer, and Anne had been married for over 65 years. John was 18 and Anne was 17 when Lorraine was born, followed by their son Graham six years later. Kelly has previously spoken about her childhood in Glasgow, recalling that her parents instilled in her a love of books and instilled a strong work ethic. The family later moved to East Kilbride, where Kelly began her career in journalism.
