Long Island Singer John Torra Named New Frontman for Quiet Riot
The 23-year-old musician earned the role after submitting an online audition tape that impressed band management.
Long Island native John Torra, 23, has been selected as the new frontman for the legendary heavy metal band Quiet Riot. Torra secured the position after participating in an online audition process that saw over 700 applicants.
Torra submitted his audition tape on July 15, performing renditions of Quiet Riot's hits "Cum on Feel the Noize," "Metal Health (Bang your Head)," and "Run for Cover." His performance caught the attention of the band's management, including Regina Banali, the widow of longtime drummer Frankie Banali.
"We saw your comments, tags, and messages urging us to bring him on board. But what earned John the gig was his undeniable talent," Banali stated. "His videos were outstanding—but when he stepped into the room with us, he blew the doors off our songs. We all heard it: an authentic sound that brings our material to life the way it’s meant to be heard."
Torra, who has been the lead singer for the New Jersey-based band Fire ‘N Ice, will join current Quiet Riot members Rudy Sarzo, Alex Grossi, and Johnny Kelly for upcoming tour dates. The tour is scheduled to begin on October 1 in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, and will include stops across the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil, concluding in Uncasville, Connecticut.
"He may be young, but he’s dedicated and professional. He brings a breath of fresh air that lifts us all, and we couldn’t be more excited about the future with him on lead vocals. Please join us in welcoming John Torra to QUIET RIOT!" Banali added.
Quiet Riot was formed in 1973. Over its history, the band has experienced numerous lineup changes and released 14 studio albums, selling over 15 million records worldwide. Alex Grossi has been the longest-serving current member since 2010, while Rudy Sarzo has been with the band in multiple stints since 1978. The band has continued to perform following the death of drummer Frankie Banali in August 2020.
Torra will continue his role with Fire ‘N Ice when he is not performing or working with Quiet Riot.
