Freeport, N.Y. – An interim school superintendent initiated a police report against the newly selected president of the Freeport school board after an alleged physical altercation following a contentious meeting. Superintendent Shakirah Miller called 911 and reported Michael Pomerico, who had just been voted in as board president, for allegedly poking her during a heated exchange.

The incident occurred Wednesday night at Caroline G. Atkinson Elementary School, according to the Freeport Herald. Pomerico reportedly approached Miller after the meeting to inquire about district documents, leading to a tense conversation. Miller stood up from her seat as the alleged poking took place.

Miller, who described the action as “laying hands on her,” then contacted the police. Responding officers interviewed Miller, Pomerico, other board members, and a reporter who witnessed the event. No arrests were made, and no charges were filed against Pomerico.

Pomerico stated that he tapped Miller with his index finger to get her attention, characterizing it as a light touch. The interaction followed a board meeting that was marked by significant tension, including loud interjections from attendees and accusations exchanged between trustees.

Miller and Pomerico did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Freeport Police Department has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
