The sole juror who prevented a unanimous verdict in the Lindsay Clancy trial was the only Black person on the panel, a fellow juror revealed in an interview. Paula Devlin, one of the 11 jurors who favored finding Clancy not criminally responsible for strangling her three young children, stated that the lone holdout was a Black man and the only person of color on the jury.
"Everybody else was White," Devlin told "CBS Mornings."
Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial last week after the jury reported being split 11-1. The single holdout juror was reportedly the only one voting to convict Clancy of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. The children were killed in their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023.
Devlin also noted that the ages of the jurors ranged from 22 to "70-ish."
