Unrest broke out in parts of London late Thursday night following Morocco's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the hands of France. The quarterfinal match, which France won 2-0, saw crowds clash with riot police in northwest London's Edgware Road.

Images and videos from the scene depicted police in riot gear attempting to control large crowds, with smoke billowing and debris scattered on the street. Some individuals were seen launching fireworks and throwing objects at officers. Reports indicated that at least one police officer was seen down on the asphalt, though the circumstances and their condition remain unconfirmed.

Moroccan flags were visible among the crowds, with some fans reportedly disrupting traffic and jumping on top of vehicles. Similar scenes of public disorder have occurred in London following other significant football matches.

In contrast, Paris appeared to be celebrating rather than experiencing riots, with supporters of both France and Morocco gathering in the streets. Traffic was slowed in several areas as fans waved flags from cars and the sidewalks.

France secured their place in the World Cup semifinals with goals from Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé. This marks France's third consecutive semifinal appearance. Morocco, despite the loss, continued to make World Cup history by becoming the first African nation to reach more than one quarterfinal.

With Morocco's exit, no African nations remain in the 2026 World Cup. France is set to face the winner of the Spain and Belgium match in the semifinals.
