Loïc Gouzer Honored on TIME100 Art List
The influential art dealer has reshaped the auction landscape with his app, Fair Warning.
Loïc Gouzer, known for his disruptive approach to the art market, has been recognized on TIME's 2026 list of the 100 most influential people in art. Gouzer's career has been marked by innovation in the auction business, particularly through his app, Fair Warning, which facilitates private, one-at-a-time bidding for a curated group of collectors.
Fair Warning has achieved significant success under Gouzer's leadership, setting world auction records for contemporary artists such as Elizabeth Peyton and Steven Shearer. In November, the app facilitated the sale of a 1974 Andy Warhol portrait of Brigitte Bardot for $16.7 million, which was the artist's highest auction price of that year. This achievement follows Gouzer's earlier, high-profile work at Christie's, where he was instrumental in the 2017 sale of Leonardo da Vinci's "Salvator Mundi" for $450.3 million, a record that still stands as the most expensive artwork ever sold at auction.
Gouzer's flair for publicizing sales was again evident in May with Fair Warning's auction of Banksy's "Girl and Balloon on Found Landscape" at the Tiffany's Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York City. The piece sold for $18 million.
Gouzer initially built his reputation as a provocative figure in the art world during his tenure at Christie's, where his innovative sales strategies garnered attention. His app, Fair Warning, continues this trend by offering a more exclusive and focused auction experience, differentiating itself from the traditional, high-volume sales at major auction houses.
