Lionel Richie has been released from the hospital and is back home in Los Angeles following a three-day stay in the intensive care unit. The singer was hospitalized on August 29 after experiencing health issues during a concert in St. Louis, Missouri. Doctors reportedly attributed his illness to slight dehydration and were testing him for cardiac-related issues, according to reports.
During his St. Louis performance, Richie, 77, appeared to struggle to complete the show, at one point requesting a chair to sit on while performing his final song, "All Night Long." Videos from the concert showed him drinking electrolytes onstage, remarking that they were "nasty" but effective. He was seen being assisted by his team during the performance.
This incident marks the second time this year Richie has experienced an onstage health scare. In June, he fell ill during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, leading to an abrupt cancellation of the show. At that time, he told the crowd, "When you're feeling dizzy, sit your ass down," before taking an intermission. The concert was ultimately canceled due to him "not feeling well."
Following the June incident, Richie canceled two subsequent shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio. He later reassured fans via Instagram on July 4 that he was "doing well" and expressed gratitude for their messages and support.
Richie was co-headlining a 26-city North American tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. The singer had previously assured fans he was recovering and looking forward to upcoming shows, including one in Toronto.
