The murder trial for Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts nurse accused of strangling her three young children, began with her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, scheduled to testify as the first witness. Clancy faces charges in the deaths of her children, Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and an unnamed 7-month-old, in January 2023.

Patrick Clancy, who has since remarried, had previously requested that sensitive evidence, including distressing photos of the children and 911 call recordings, be kept from public view. His attorney, David Meier, argued that the dissemination of such graphic material would cause immeasurable and everlasting emotional harm to his client and his family, and would disrespect the dignity and memory of the child victims. While the judge granted the request to limit public display and streaming of certain evidence, the courtroom proceedings will still include this material.

Meier clarified that Patrick Clancy was not seeking to close the courtroom but rather to narrowly circumscribe the recording, display, and disclosure of graphic evidence. The court's decision means the evidence will be presented and heard in person but will not be made available through public live streams. The ex-husband's testimony is expected to provide crucial details on the events leading up to the tragedy.

Lindsay Clancy was found to have been suffering from postpartum depression at the time of the children's deaths. She also attempted to end her own life by jumping from a second-floor window of their Duxbury home. Her then-husband had reportedly stepped out briefly to pick up a takeout order before returning to the scene. The youngest child, initially found alive, was rushed to the hospital with injuries but later died. Clancy herself sustained serious injuries from the fall.
