Lindsay Clancy, on trial for allegedly strangling her three young children, cried when she heard about the case of Andrea Yates, a former co-worker testified Monday. Margaret Hamp, who worked with Clancy in labor and delivery, told jurors that she mentioned the Yates case to Clancy after a pregnant patient expressed suicidal thoughts.
Hamp recounted explaining the Yates case to Clancy, who then became emotional. "How could a mother hurt her children?" Clancy reportedly asked, according to Hamp.
Andrea Yates drowned her five children in 2001. She was initially convicted in a 2002 trial, but that verdict was overturned. In a second trial in 2006, Yates was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Clancy is accused of killing her children, Dawson, Callan, and Cora, in January 2023.
