Los Angeles County officials conducted a raid on the home of actress Linda Blair on Friday to investigate alleged animal welfare violations. The operation, involving the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning and the Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC), discovered approximately 200 dogs at the actress's residence. Authorities stated that Blair's permits to house rescue animals had expired in 2023. Representatives from the DACC indicated that an inspection warrant was issued after multiple attempts to contact Blair's kennel went unanswered. While Blair has not been accused of criminal activity, the inspection aimed to evaluate animal care, safety conditions, and the overall welfare of the dogs. TMZ reported that Blair, permitted to house around 60 dogs, was present during the early morning inspection and was cooperative. The 67-year-old actress, best known for her role in the 1973 film "The Exorcist," later addressed the incident via an Instagram video. Blair stated that the situation primarily involved "paperwork and some new diagrams" that needed to be addressed, assuring her followers that she and the animals were fine. She expressed surprise that notification had not been made through mail. Blair founded the Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation in 2003, an organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abused, neglected, and abandoned animals. The foundation's mission also includes aiding in crisis situations and educating the public on animal welfare. Less than a week prior to the inspection, Blair had appealed to her social media followers for donations to support her foundation's work, specifically for spaying, neutering, microchipping, and vaccinating rescue dogs. Blair has a long career in film, with notable roles in horror movies such as "Hell Night" and "Grotesque," and appearances in "Scream" and "Supernatural."
