Actress Linda Blair has spoken out following a police search of her Southern California property Friday, which was reportedly conducted due to an alleged dog kennel operation housing over 100 dogs. Blair, 67, addressed the incident on Instagram, reassuring fans that she and the animals are "good."
According to reports, the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning and the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control obtained an inspection warrant to investigate the property for buildings and structures associated with a kennel operation. Officials stated that the goal was to "verify compliance codes with County codes" and evaluate "animal care, safety conditions, and overall welfare of the dogs housed on the property."
Blair characterized the visit as a "really big surprise" and indicated it was primarily about "paperwork" needed for her kennel operation. She also noted her ongoing efforts to relocate and expand her animal rescue and educational initiatives. The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control claimed that the kennel's permits expired in 2023 and that previous attempts to contact Blair had been unsuccessful. Blair questioned why authorities had not reached out via mail.
Officials emphasized that the "priority" was the safety and well-being of both the animals and any people on the property. No dogs were removed from the site during the search, and Blair was reportedly "extremely cooperative."
Blair's work with animals is well-documented through the Linda Blair-Worldheart Foundation, an organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abused, neglected, and abandoned animals. The foundation's mission also includes aiding in crisis situations and educating the public on animal welfare.
Fans expressed support for Blair in the comments section of her social media post, with some noting they were inspired to learn more about and donate to her foundation.
