USC head coach Lincoln Riley has addressed mounting speculation regarding his future with the Trojans, asserting his commitment to the program. "If I didn't want to be at this place, I wouldn't have come here in the first place," Riley stated during a press conference Wednesday. "If I didn't want to be at this place, I've had plenty of opportunities to leave, and this is where I want to be. This is the right place for me. I'm the right person to be here. That's as honest and transparent as I can be with you."

Riley's remarks come as USC navigates a season marked by inconsistent performance. The Trojans currently hold a 6-2 record, but their victories have been hard-fought, and their losses have raised concerns. All of USC's Big Ten wins this season have come against teams with losing records in conference play. Two of those wins were against Rutgers and Penn State, both teams with losing records on the season.

USC's defeats have included a home loss to Oregon, during which the Ducks' starting quarterback Dante Moore sustained a head injury. Last week, the Trojans, who were ranked No. 16 nationally entering the game, were held to just seven points in a road loss to the Wisconsin Badgers, dropping them out of the rankings.

Riley left Oklahoma, where he coached from 2017-2021 and led the Sooners to three consecutive College Football Playoff appearances (2017-19), to take the USC job after the 2021 regular season. In his five seasons with USC, the Trojans have compiled a 41-20 record but have not reached the College Football Playoff. A loss to Utah in the Pac-12 Championship Game in 2022 ended their playoff hopes that year. USC transitioned to the Big Ten conference starting with the 2024 season. The 11 wins USC achieved in 2022 remain the only double-digit win season under Riley's tenure.

USC's contract with Riley reportedly includes a $70 million buyout if the university were to terminate his employment. Riley originally signed a 10-year contract reportedly worth $110 million.

The Trojans face a challenging remaining schedule. USC is set to host No. 2-ranked Ohio State this Saturday. Following a bye week, they have a road game against No. 4-ranked Indiana, followed by a home game against the Maryland Terrapins. The regular season concludes with a road matchup against rivals UCLA, who are currently ranked No. 7.
