Lime Scooters Not Designed for "Jousting," Company Says After London Event
The e-bike company discouraged similar events after footage of a medieval-style joust on their bikes went viral.
Lime has stated that its e-bikes are not intended for "jousting" after a video of a public duel on the vehicles gained significant attention online. The company emphasized that safety must be a priority and discouraged any attempts at similar events.
The incident, which took place in east London, involved hundreds of spectators watching a performance art joust. Footage of the event was shared widely on social media, with one video accumulating over four million views. The organizer described the event as "performance art."
Despite the popularity of such gatherings, hospitals have reported an increase in injuries to both e-bike riders and pedestrians. In light of this, a Lime spokesperson commented, "We always love seeing Londoners come together and build a sense of community in unexpected ways. While we appreciate the medieval spirit, safety must always come first. Lime bikes are designed for getting around the city, not for jousting."
The company's statement aims to ensure the safety of riders and the public, urging individuals not to replicate the "jousting" event.
