Lime Scoffs at Jousting Trend: "Not What Our Bikes Are For"
The rental company issued a safety warning after a video of people jousting on their bikes went viral.
Rental bike company Lime has publicly stated that its electric scooters are not intended for jousting after a video depicting this activity gained significant traction online. The company issued a safety reminder emphasizing that their products are designed for urban transportation, not for medieval-style combat.
A video showing two individuals jousting on Lime bikes in London garnered millions of views, prompting the company's response. The practice, which mimics traditional jousting but uses bicycles, has been described by one participant as performance art. However, Lime does not share this view regarding the use of their equipment.
"We always love seeing Londoners come together and build a sense of community in unexpected ways," a Lime spokesperson told the BBC. "While we appreciate the medieval spirit, safety must always come first. Lime bikes are designed for getting around the city, not for jousting. We discourage anyone from attempting similar events to help keep riders and those around them safe."
While the company acknowledges the creativity shown in the viral video, it stressed that rider and public safety remain its top priority. Lime's statement clarifies that such activities fall outside the intended use of their rental bikes, which are meant for commuting and short-distance travel within urban environments.
