Businesswoman Lily Tang Williams has won the Republican primary in New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional District, securing the party's nomination to challenge the incumbent Democrat. Williams, an entrepreneur and entrepreneur, defeated three other Republican candidates in Tuesday's primary.
Williams, who was the Republican nominee for the seat in 2024, is an immigrant from China who describes herself as a survivor of communism. She has positioned herself as an "open-minded" and "independent" candidate, willing to diverge from former President Donald Trump's positions when necessary for her constituents.
During an April interview, Williams stated her desire for Trump to present a plan for resolving the conflict in Iran, denouncing oppressive regimes and self-enrichment by politicians. She formerly chaired the New Hampshire Libertarian Party.
Williams led the field in fundraising, bringing in nearly $1.2 million. Her closest competitor, Victor Orlando, raised $175,000. Both Williams and Orlando presented themselves as center-right candidates in a state that leans Democratic.
The New Hampshire 2nd Congressional District is currently represented by Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-N.H.). In her previous run for the seat in 2024, Williams garnered 47% of the vote.
