Rapper and artist Lil Nas X, 27, announced the death of his mother, Tameka Hill, on Saturday, as he continues his own journey through treatment and recovery. He shared the news on Instagram, posting a tribute that included throwback photos of his mother.

While an official cause of death was not immediately provided, Lil Nas X has previously spoken publicly about his mother's struggles with addiction. In a January 2020 interview with Variety, he described their relationship as strained due to her substance addiction, stating, "I never really talk about my mom. She’s an addict, so we don’t have the closest relationship… Even trying to get her better - things didn’t quite work out. But there’s still love."

The announcement comes days after Lil Nas X confirmed he had spent several months in rehab. In a video update shared on social media, he stated, "I've been in rehab for a few months... And since then I've been back at home... and trying to ground myself down to earth and get out of my head."

In August 2025, Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested following a public mental health crisis in Los Angeles. This incident led to an inpatient rehab stay, a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and a court-supervised treatment plan. He has since stated that he is receiving therapy and psychiatric care, which he finds helpful. He has also spoken about the challenges of managing his mental health, noting his bipolar disorder diagnosis alongside his identities as Black and gay.

Following his August 2025 arrest, where he was found wandering in Los Angeles, Lil Nas X was accused of battery on an officer and resisting arrest. The rapper pleaded not guilty to the charges. In April, a judge allowed him to undergo treatment instead of serving jail time, characterizing the 2025 incident as "aberrant from his normal conduct" and linking it to his bipolar disorder diagnosis.

Lil Nas X also recently marked his "10,000th day alive," sharing a video post celebrating his milestone and expressing gratitude for his recovery and the support of his fanbase, referred to as the 'Montourage'.
