Liev Schreiber Clashes With Reporter Over 'Soundbite' Interview
Actor expresses frustration with a reporter's line of questioning at the premiere of his new show 'Nocturne.'
Actor Liev Schreiber engaged in a heated exchange with a reporter on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of his new Apple TV+ show, "Nocturne." The incident occurred Tuesday night when Schreiber took issue with the reporter's approach to questioning, perceiving it as an attempt to elicit a superficial "soundbite."
"Talk to people like you value what they do!" Schreiber told the reporter, who was part of Apple TV's in-house press team. He emphasized that the interview was not meant to be a "f–king soundbite," particularly when conducted internally. Schreiber added that the goal was to make the show "compelling" and urged the reporter to "engage with the person."
Schreiber, 59, further elaborated on the nature of the question he felt was inadequate. "That’s what they’re three words … three words are not gonna do anything to anybody, and the monkey that f–king thought of that is shooting themselves in the foot," he stated. "If you wanna give them something that they can use, talk to people like they’re humans, not like it’s social media," the Tony Award winner advised.
The reporter appeared to maintain composure throughout the exchange, smiling and nodding. The interaction concluded when the reporter asked what Schreiber deemed a "real question." He then signaled for the cameraman to resume filming, and the situation appeared to resolve amicably.
Schreiber's representatives declined to comment, and Apple TV representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
In "Nocturne," Schreiber portrays Detective Jonah Lynn, who moves to a small Pennsylvania town that becomes the target of an imprisoned serial killer. The series also features Stephen Graham, Zazie Beetz, Rory Culkin, and Chrissy Metz.
