A man has returned two library books that were borrowed by his late grandfather in 1910, a remarkable 116 years after they were due.
Peter O'Sullivan found the volumes, "Paradise Lost" by John Milton and "King Lear" by William Shakespeare, among his late grandfather Walter Griffith Owen's possessions. The books originated from the former Llanrwst Reading Room & Library in Conwy county, Wales.
A note inside the books indicated they were initially lent for one week, with provisions to apply to the caretaker for a second week at a fee of one penny per week. O'Sullivan noted that the books had been on loan for over 6,000 weeks.
He expressed initial concern about a potential fine given the extensive overdue period. O'Sullivan stated that returning the books felt like the right thing to do. He ultimately handed the books over to the Llanrwst library.
