Liberty to Face Atlanta Dream in WNBA Semifinals

The New York Liberty have advanced to the WNBA semifinals, where they will face the Atlanta Dream. The Liberty secured their place on Tuesday, and the matchup was set on Wednesday when the Dream completed a sweep of the Washington Mystics with a 93-75 victory.

The Dream enter the semifinal series as a team on a significant hot streak, having won 13 of their last 15 regular-season games and carrying that momentum into the playoffs. This marks a notable turnaround for Atlanta, which had experienced three consecutive first-round exits in the postseason prior to this year, including a loss to the Liberty in 2024.

Meanwhile, the Liberty's path to the semifinals has been equally remarkable. As the No. 8 seed, they made history by becoming the first eighth seed to eliminate the top-seeded team in the opening round when they defeated the Minnesota Lynx. This playoff run comes in the first year under head coach Chris DeMarco and follows a regular season marked by injuries and adjustments.

This will be the Liberty's third semifinal appearance in the last four seasons. The Dream won the regular-season series against New York 2-1, with both victories occurring late in the season. Notably, Liberty star Breanna Stewart did not play in one of those matchups. However, the Liberty have demonstrated a different level of play in the postseason compared to their regular-season performance.

The winner of the Liberty-Dream series will advance to the WNBA Finals.
