The Liberal Democrats have chosen Camden councillor Patrick Stillman to represent the party in the upcoming by-election for the Holborn and St Pancras constituency. The election is scheduled for October 8.
The seat became available after Sir Keir Starmer resigned as a Member of Parliament to pursue an international affairs role. Stillman, who became a councillor for the West Hampstead ward earlier this year, also serves as the outgoing chairman of Camden Liberal Democrats.
"Voters here deserve better than a Labour government in chaos, or a Green Party using this seat to prop up its leader's ambitions," Stillman stated following his selection. He added that he plans to present a "distinct, confident liberal message" on issues including housing, safety, and opportunities for young Londoners.
Stillman will be competing against Sagal Abdi-Wali, the leader of Camden Council representing Labour, and Zack Polanski, the leader of the Green Party. The former Conservative councillor Ewan Cameron will also be a candidate. The deadline for candidate nominations is 4:00 PM BST on Tuesday.
