Liam Stewart, son of rock icon Sir Rod Stewart, has moved his young family from Los Angeles to the United Kingdom. The relocation coincides with the 81-year-old singer's recovery from recent heart surgery.
Stewart, an ice hockey player, and his wife Nicole, along with their two young children, have settled in Milton Keynes. This move allows Liam to play a final season with the Milton Keynes Lightning team. He previously played for the team for four seasons before a two-year hiatus focused on coaching in the U.S.
Liam, whose mother is former model Rachel Hunter, expressed his excitement about the move to the podcast Lightning Talks. "We're enjoying the last month we have here, and then all four of us are heading over to MK," he stated. "I'm excited to get there and hopefully get into some cooler weather because it's pretty hot here right now."
The move places Liam and his family on the same continent as his father, who recently underwent a coronary stent procedure. The surgery led to the cancellation of the remainder of Sir Rod Stewart's 2026 tour dates in the U.S. and Mexico on medical advice.
Sir Rod Stewart, who resides in Essex with his wife Penny Lancaster and their two younger sons, has indicated he is recovering well. His representatives have stated he is back to his usual daily activities.
This heart procedure followed a period of health challenges for the musician. In May, he canceled Las Vegas performances due to a sinus infection and vocal rest. The following month, a concert in San Diego was withdrawn after he was diagnosed with an acute upper respiratory infection, resulting in laryngitis. Concerns were heightened when he became winded during a performance in Utah, at which point he used an oxygen tank and finished the show seated.
Liam mentioned spending time with his father in the months leading up to his decision to move back to Britain. He also noted that a brief return to competitive hockey over Christmas had reignited his passion for the sport. "I just missed the locker room and all that kind of stuff," he explained. "And then coming back at Christmas obviously lit a flame a little bit, and I guess I just tweeted out one last dance."
He also confirmed that the decision was discussed with his wife. "I made sure it was all good with the wife," Liam stated. "The kids don't really care, they'll be excited to watch me play."
