Liam Gallagher Engages in Online Spat with Coronation Street Actor Over Oasis's Musical Merit

Liam Gallagher has reignited his famously combative online persona, this time engaging in a public dispute with Coronation Street actor Charlie Lawson. The exchange began when Lawson, 67, known for his role as Jim McDonald, responded to a post on X questioning whether Oasis was an overhyped band.

Lawson's assessment of Oasis as "distinctly average" prompted a sharp retort from Gallagher, who then questioned the actor's own professional abilities. "Like your fing acting skills," Gallagher posted. Lawson responded with a taunt about Gallagher's personal life, and Gallagher further criticized Lawson's acting, calling him an "Actor in his fing dreams."

Despite the escalating exchange, Lawson stood his ground, sharing a clip of David Byrne from Talking Heads and declaring them his "favourite band in the 80s and 90s." The unexpected online feud captured the attention of fans, who expressed surprise at the juxtaposition of the rock star and the soap actor. Comments on social media ranged from amusement to disbelief at the unexpected "beef."

This incident follows a recent period of online activity for Gallagher concerning Oasis's 2027 European tour. Tickets for the 42-date tour, which began sales starting at £170.50 with VIP packages reaching up to £571, drew criticism from fans regarding pricing and the ticket acquisition system.

Gallagher responded to fan complaints with a series of often sarcastic tweets. When one fan deemed the tickets too expensive, Gallagher replied, "So I've heard." To another expressing stress over ticket purchases, he shared, "I know but what can I do this is the fairest way to do things so I've been told I'm getting stressed out now coz your getting stressed it's not on. Stressification for the nation." He even jokingly suggested canceling the entire tour in response to the backlash.

Fans also voiced frustration with the registration system for obtaining unique booking codes, with many reporting they did not receive one. Gallagher's responses to these issues included quips like "Behind you" when asked about a missing code and suggesting he could get in for free due to a "spiritual glow."

Some fans defended the ticket prices, citing the cost of other artists and the potential finality of an Oasis tour. Gallagher acknowledged this support, albeit with his characteristic bluntness, referring to the band as "greedy bumba f***ing clarts."

The Oasis Live 27 tour is scheduled to encompass 42 shows across multiple countries, including Scotland, England, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, France, Italy, the US, and Ireland. The band has also cautioned fans about potential ticket scams, urging vigilance and advising them to only accept codes from an official email address.

Demand for the tour led to the addition of four extra dates, including two at Knebworth, a venue with significant historical importance for the band. The band's 2025 reunion tour, which sold out rapidly, reportedly generated substantial revenue. However, previous ticket pricing, including the use of dynamic pricing, has drawn scrutiny from regulatory bodies.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) previously examined dynamic pricing practices and advised Ticketmaster to alter how it labels and presents ticket prices to consumers.
